Our Tasting event last week featured eight Taupenot Merme cuvées spanning from 1998 to 2014. Overall the reaction to the selection of wines was very good, with some noting particular wines as having surprising qualities.
Jessica Ting of L’Imperatrice noted “The 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers is quite structured and firm in the mouth with black pepper and sage for finishing.” While another colleague Joy was wowed by the Gevrey-Chambertin 2014 village, “incredibly fruit forward with surprising complexity and a beautiful nose.” One of the guests commented that, “It was an amazing experience from start to finish. I started at the Saint Romain Blanc 2014 to Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2014, the one which flew into my mouth and hit my palate was not the Grand Cru but the Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Bel Air 2014. It was a very great experience trying different vintages and vineyards of TaupenotMerme.”
Romain Taupenot described the 2014 vintage as the first since 2009 that had excellent purity of expression with silky tannins and perfect balance—the wines make for good drinking all along their respective cycles of evolution.
